With an estimated $34 billion spent to procure the final product, F-22’s would cost an estimated $339 million per aircraft, with a cost of around $150 per each additional unit. The total program cost for the F-22’s is around $66 billion.
Because of the hefty price tag, there was a debate throughout the early 2000’s as to whether this was a viable program to complete. In the end, despite opposition, Congress decided to continue the F-22’s production in 2008 by way of a new spending bill.
