Try these Lambics, in order of least to most sour…
Framboise –Raspberry Lambic beer. We recommend St. Louis Framboise from Brouwerij Van Hounsebrouck N.V. 4.5% ABV. It’s less sugary than other framboise, it’s tart and acidic.
Kriek- Cherry Lambic. Sour cherries are added to the Lambic and refermented in the bottle. Not as sweet a Framboise, the Kriek is much more sour. We recommend Boon Kriek from Brouwerij Boon (pictured above). A traditional Belgian Kriek, 5.0% ABV, and delicious.
Gueuze – Gueze is a mixture of one year and two year old Lambic. Its second fermentation, in the bottle, is what causes it to be carbonated. It is less slightly less sour than a pure Lambic, but a little easier to comeby. We recommend Cantillon Gueze from Brasserie Cantillon. It gets a 99/100 on Beer Advocate, making it a World Class Beer. Its acidic, lemony, with a hint of musky apple; it has 5.0% ABV. This beer is one that might take some getting used to. The vinegar smell might be initially off-putting, but give it a few sips to get used to it. We think you’ll like it by the end of the bottle.
