6. Château Miranda – Celles, Belgium

Château Miranda is like something out of The Count of Monte Cristo, it is breathtaking. The castle was built in 1866 in the province of Namur, Belgium. During WWII, the castle was temporarily occupied by the Nazis…and then shortly after it was taken over by the National Railway Company of Belgium where it served as an orphanage until 1980. Château Miranda has remained empty since 1991 and is sadly scheduled to be demolished this year (2014).
